Maple Steamed Puddings in the Varoma

I love this dessert! It’s failsafe, versatile, easy to make in the Thermomix and my kids love it! I usually have it cooking in the Varoma while we are eating dinner, and a batch of Thermomix custard is perfect to serve with it. I make it in 4 large silicon cups and for a dinner party I have successfully doubled the quantity and managed to get a dozen made in cupcake sized silicon cups and spread them on both the Varoma dish and the tray to cook.

Domestic Diva: Maple Steamed Puddings in the Varoma

Serves 4ย
120g self raising flour
80g Sugar
70g Nuttelex
1 egg
60g milk or rice milk
Maple Syrup
900ml water for steaming

Place the flour, sugar, and nuttelex into the Thermomix bowl. Mix for 4 seconds on speed 5. The consistency should look a bit like breadcrumbs.

Add the egg and milk. Mix on speed 3 for approximately 10 seconds. If mixture is too thick add a dash more milk.

Pour a generous amount of maple syrup into each of the 4 large silicone cups orย small greased ramekins. Carefully pour the mixture over the Maple Syrup. Place each of the puddings in to the Varoma dish.

Pour 900ml of water into the Thermomix bowl and steam puddings at Varoma temperature speed stir for 25-30 minutes.ย Use a skewer to check if they are cooked, it should come out clean when cooked through.

Turn out into a dessert bowl and serve with custard, cream or ice cream, or better still… with all of them!

Tips: You can substitute the maple syrup for pear jam, Rice malt syrup or golden syrup. Add 20g of carob powder with the flour to make carob steamed puddings.

  4. Hi There,

Made these last night (after pork/turkey san choi bao – like we needed more to eat – NOT!!!) and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I have not used Nuttelex before now, I presume it is healthier than butter – didn’t have time to look, just bought it and used! I also used Rapadura and Spelt Flour. Yummo! 4/4 positive responses from our household ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Wonderful that that your family liked it Bonnie. Nuttelex is a safer version of butter or margarine for people with allergies or intolerances. I use it in most of my cooking. ๐Ÿ™‚
